1- 1- 2

Event 1: Drawing event, 21-2-2008, 3-5pm, West side foyer, Winchester School of Art.
Procedure 1: Drawing a graph of a random network (adapted from Stuart Kauffman)
1. drop coins on floor, separate.
2. circle around and take coins away, these are our random nodes.
3. number nodes for documentation.
4. to create random links: a person chooses 2 circles and draws a line between it.
5. choose any circle (already linked or not)
6. while drawing lines you are not allowed to cross any other line.
7. repeat 4 at least as many times as there are nodes.
Graph 2: Drawn by Sue McLachlan, Stephen Davies, Gulshan Ara, Helena Eflerova, Sue Wood, Di Peisley, Rae-Sarah Weedon.

Discussion:
Participants felt that the numbers in the circles had too much influence on the choice of nodes to connect. By seeing for instance number 71 they where looking for number 72 or not number 72. They suggested to do the numbering more randomly throughout.
They also suggested to make 10 connections or lines to speed up the process.

After discussion Procedure 1 changed to 2

each person draws 10 lines maximum.
